If I Can't Find a Job

...I can always follow in the footsteps of the brilliant busker whom I spotted today. During the F train ride back home, I noticed the gawd-awful sounds emanating from a saxophone-playing busker. Squeak! Screech! My fellow subway riders were wincing. I turned up the volume on my mp3 player to a deafeningly loud level.

Turns out the crappiness of the performance was deliberate -- after 15 minutes (I kid you not, the subway made 3 stops before the busker ceased.) of audio torture, the busker finally stopped. And threatened to continue playing horribly if we did not give him money. And it worked! Fellow riders were giving him $ bills to get out of our car.

If I'm hard-up for money, I will try this technique. But instead of a sax, I'll use my kazoo to annoy riders.

Indie Rock Internerds Join the Fun

I like it, but what do others think? Reactions to Franz Ferdinand's "Do You Want To" video on Stereogum.

Video now available in beautiful quicktime. We shot this scene sometime past midnight. Most of the extras had been on set for 12+ hours -- hard to believe that we had enough energy to dance.

Reason for the Big Hole in My Wallet

Tax-free shopping week in New York begins today. Aiee! Must. Restrain. Myself. NYC.gov lists what is exempt (and not) from tax.
Clothing, footwear, fabric, thread, yarn, buttons, zippers, neckties, scarves, hats, uniforms, athletic clothing, and diapers are all exempt from sales tax during these periods.

However, jewelry and watches, handbags, umbrellas, pet clothing, and sports equipment are not exempt during these periods.
Some of the items on the taxable and non-taxable lists are odd. Who knew that zippers and diapers fell into the tax exempt category?

Must object to the handbags remaining on the taxable list -- they are a very necessary component of one's outfit, you know.

The Ice Cream Man is Trying To Drive Me Crazy

Imagine this playing outside your apartment window over and over and over again.

Return of The Fever

One of my fav local bands returns home. The Fever. Nov. 18. Warsaw.

Photo: Gregory Nolan

My friend and I fell under their spell at Siren Fest last year. We heard 2 songs and became addicted.

Wonder if I'll bump into the usual suspects (i.e. lady in the front row who, um, molested Geremy at the Bowery Ballroom Blizzard '05 show) at this gig...Anywho, don't miss this guaranteed spaztastic dance-filled good time.

My Favorite Insult

All You Fat Ass Butt Pussies -- I choked on my drink when I first heard this on Box Codax's Boys and Girls. Quite an unusual insult. Must remember to use this term in an argument sometime. Tee hee.

4 More Weeks

Summer is over in exactly 4 weeks -- fall is almost upon us! Still have a few more activities and places on my to do/to visit list for the season:
Do-able, I think. Of course, I must cram these in between the concerts, which I plan to attend in the next few weeks. Oy vey.

Wow Wow Wee Wah!

Borat strikes again!

For those unfamiliar with Borat's comic genius, this photo of him wearing a leather hat, short shorts, sailing along on an inflatable turtle while rocking out on a keytar pretty much shows why he makes me lose control of my bladder.

Where's he going on that hot ride? To the wedding of Pamela Anderson's dogs, of course.

Editors and Art Brut Live Debuts at Mercury Lounge?

What's going on with the Mercury Lounge schedule? Last weekend Editors were listed for a show on Sept. 19, now the show is listed as postponed. C'mon, I need my derivative Joy Division/Interpol band fix!

Guess I can console myself with the Art Brut show in Nov., if I'm in town. Bang, Bang, Rock & Roll was the first album this year that made me laugh aloud with its fun (and funny) lyrics.
And yes, this is my singing voice
It's not irony
And it's not rock and roll
I'm just talking
To the kids
Not listed on ML's calendar, yet. Hmm..

Please Excuse the Fangirl Squealing

Franz Ferdinand makes a video and if you squint, you'll see me in it! Squeee!

FF is one of the "F" bands that I love. Last month I had the opportunity to be an extra in the music video for Do You Want To, the first single from their upcoming album. I wore club clothes at 10 in the AM, performed a funny dance, and encountered other interesting (translation: more FF obsessed than I) fans of the band. Oh, and I met the bandmembers, too. (cover your ears) Squeee!

Earlier today I caught the US premiere of the video on MTV2. It looks fantastic and is loaded with pop art references for the enjoyment of the artsy fartsy types. Am happy that my superb line dancing skills finally received their proper showcase -- spending 14 hours on set was definitely worth those glorious 14 seconds on tape.

Stream it.
Download it. Can you spot me? (hint: I'm in the 2nd row of line dancing extras).

Another Day, Another Blogger

Yes, another blog is born to clog the Internet. Huzzah! Why should you care? What else are you going to do at work, hmm? Procrastination, you seductive vixen, you.

This is a personal blog, which means that this is an outlet for nonsense springing from my head. B
latherings about life in New York, music, gossip, and everything in between. Let's see how this goes...
